Competition Details

Teams at Dulwich-Newtown Basketball Club generally play in the City of Sydney Basketball Association competitions.

Competitions run year-round during school term and the year is split into three seasons. These are the dates for 2024 seasons:

  • Season 3 runs 2nd September to 7th December.

Age Groups

Under 16 and Under 18 Girls play games on Friday night at Alexandria.

Boys Under 16 and Under 18 play games on Saturday afternoons and evenings at any of the following locations: Marrickville PCYC, Alexandria Basketball Stadium, or Perry Park Recreational Centre.

All other juniors play games on Saturdays at Alexandria or Perry Park Recreational Centre.

Age groups are determined by the player’s age at the end of the calendar year. This means to play Under 14s, for example, a player must be 13 or less at the end of the current year.

Training

All teams are required to train for 1 hour per week.

We ask that all players bring their own ball to training. U10s and U12s use a size 5 ball in matches.U14/16/18 girls use a size 6 ball. U16/18 boys use a size 7 ball. If you already have a ball that isn't the correct size, that's acceptable for training.

Players are required to bring their own water bottle filled with water.

Costs

There are three main costs involved in playing basketball:

  1. Registration payment goes to Basketball NSW and the City of Sydney Basketball Association. This lasts 12 months and includes insurance coverage. The cost varies depending on the player's age.

  2. Club fees. These amounts vary by age group and the length of training. It typically ranges from $280 to $330 per season including training. Invoices are sent during the first week of the season.

  3. Uniform cost.

If your team plays games at Marrickville PCYC (U16/18 Boys) or trains there you would also need a PCYC membership which is $10 per year for juniors.

Active Kids Vouchers

The club is a registered Active Kids provider meaning you can claim a voucher towards the club fee. The Active Kids program provides two $50 vouchers for parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport and active recreation costs each year.
